Mr Näkkälä is absolutely the laziest of all lazy reindeer. A big daddy, who is not working. Never. He is perfectly trusting towards people, but he has never been tamed and trained in any way. He has moved to our herd from up north, the herding cooperative Näkkälä, which is the source of his name also.
In the wintertime, Mr Näkkälä lies back and relaxes near the feeding site, knowing exactly how to take it easy. In summertime, he moves closer to our house, to hang around for tasty snacks, and a cabin protecting from insects.
In autumn, during rutting season, Mr Näkkälä pulls his socks up, and does his duties as a daddy reindeer with the reindeer ladies with pride. So, for about two months in autumn, Mr Näkkälä looks strong and handsome breeding male, the king of his harem and the forests. The rest of a year, he looks and acts like Homer Simpson, a reindeer couch potato.
